BRIEF SUMMARY

The story centers around 25-year-old Devi, who has been kidnapped and is held hostage in a basement by a masked gunman. Her captor threatens to kill her unless she confesses to a series of crimes he accuses her of committing. To heighten her terror, he is putting her life up for online auction, where the highest bidder will determine her fate.

Over the course of a single night, Devi must recount her life story, unveiling the secrets of her seven extraordinary lives and the many identities she has assumed to survive.

As Devi narrates her journey, the novel takes readers across India, from Delhi and Punjab to Kerala, Goa, and Mumbai, weaving a tale of poverty, resilience, and survival. Each of her seven lives is marked by hardship, deception, and remarkable luck, transforming her from a naive girl from the gutters into a hardened survivor.

Her earliest memories are filled with loss and injustice, including the death of her brother at the hands of the wealthy and the indifference of corrupt authorities. These formative experiences teach her early on that survival requires both cunning and strength.

As Devi recounts her seven identities, each life becomes a testament to her adaptability and resourcefulness. Through her confessions and the high-stakes battle of wits with her captor, Devi’s story transforms into a rollercoaster of hidden truths and shocking revelations, illustrating how her resilience and survival skills are forged and tested in every chapter of her life .

It will be surprising to see whether devi able to survive this longest night of her life?

WHAT I PERSONALLY LIKE๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—

  • . Through Devi’s journey—the story offers a deeply philosophical look at how people evolve in response to adversity, trauma, and changing circumstances.

  • Each chapter is filled with suspense, unexpected twists, and high-stakes drama, which keeps the reader engaged and doesn't create boardem.

  • Beyond its thriller elements, the book explores themes of love, family, loss, and personal redemption. It also serves as a commentary on the harsh realities of modern India, including systemic injustice, poverty, and the resilience required to survive in such an environment.

WHAT CRITIQUE SAYS๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ’ญ

While the story is overwhelmed and fast packed critique found some weakness in the story such as,

1. The story of the book leans on familiar topic making the storyline predictive and less original.

2. In every plot the extraordinary luck of devi create the situation of disbelief among readers.

FROM MY LENS๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€

The stories of struggle ,survival, belief and not to give up on circumstances always impressive to me . this story is also one of them . i personally like some of the quotes in the book which i would like to share such as,

“Sometimes, the only way to remember who you are is to forget everything you’ve been told.”

“Pain doesn't vanish. It just hides in places you’re too afraid to look.”

“A life isn't measured in years, but in how deeply we lived every truth.”

“Memory is a storyteller with a secret agenda.”

“In the end, it’s not about who you were, but who you choose to become.”
